ProtonMail
ProtonMail was launched in 2014 by scientists and engineers who met at CERN. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, the service is developed by Proton AG, the same company behind Proton VPN, Proton Drive, and Proton Calendar. ProtonMail is known for its zero-access encryption, meaning even Proton cannot read user emails, and its servers are located in Switzerland under some of the world’s strongest privacy laws.
ProtonMail offers a free plan with limited storage and features, as well as premium individual and business plans. The ProtonMail Business option (now part of the Proton for Business suite) includes:
Custom domain support (e.g., you@yourcompany.com)
Up to 5000 users
15–500 GB storage per user
Encrypted contact and calendar integration
Admin panel and multi-user management
Migration and priority support
This makes ProtonMail an ideal secure email alternative for privacy-conscious companies, NGOs, journalists, and individuals handling sensitive data.
